You can go directly to the Template Library . If you know the name of the template… Use the search feature to type in the name. It will pop right up for you! I’m a beginner. Where do I start?

Okay, cool. You are in the perfect place. And I’m thrilled for us both.

My main goal is that you feel more energized to actually email and grow your list. I know it might feel heavy right now, so let’s start small.

First, head over to the List Building training.

Watch that first. Then pick your next action steps. There are some outlined at the end of the training for ya. Put a time on the calendar for you to work on those list building activities you’ve committed to during the training.

And fully commit, my friend. It doesn’t do you any good to pay $9/month if you’re not getting people on your email list. Even if you just use this $9 commitment to keep yourself accountable to grow…do that!

Growing your list is priority numero uno right now.

This is a good spot to be in! With a few tweaks we can start a snowball effect, baby! Let’s do it.

#1– I want you to scrub your email list.

Let’s get rid of the people that aren’t opening your emails anymore.

I know, I know. You worked hard on finding those folks, but we’ve gotta do it.

Go to the Email Template Library search for the Cold Scrub emails. There’s a short video training inside that will help you get this done quickly.

#2– Check out The Email Staircase training.

If you’re in a time crunch, just watch the 17 minute “3 Components of Email” section of that training. This is going to help you understand email marketing (and the way the templates inside EMM work) so much better.

And when you understand something, you can use it to its fullest capabilities.

#3–Revamp your welcome sequence.

Inside the training from task #2, you learned what should go into a welcome sequence. Now take a look at your current sequence. What’s missing?

Add it into your current sequence or use the templates over in the Library to rewrite yours.

#4–Use the templates.
Finally, the fun part! Head over to the Template Library and pick a template.

What is a cold scrub and how do I do it?

A cold scrub is simply “scrubbing off” (removing) people from your list that are no longer opening. Your email service provider should be classifying these cold emails for you. Contact their support for more information on how to identify who is cold and who is not….although generally, it’s pretty simple.

Now, why do we do that? Well…

Email works so well because it’s consent-based. People have opted into your list. But sometimes a person retracts that consent. We usually think of this as an unsubscribe, but sometimes people simply remove consent by not opening your emails. This is our signal (as senders) to stop emailing them.

This is where the cold scrub comes in.

Scrub your email list at least 2x a year. Now, if you’re someone that emails pretty regularly and your list is growing, consider every quarter. That’s what Liz does.

Yes, even with the apple iOs updates.

Remember, with current iOs mail users, they are being auto-opened. So anyone on the “cold/not opening” list is most definitely actually cold.

(yes that means we cannot see if those iOs users are retracting their consent by not opening emails. yes, that is frustrating and an issue that Apple itself overlooked in trying to protect privacy. no, there’s nothing we can do about it right now.)

So give those email addresses YOU CAN SEE DON’T OPEN a scrub.

Within EMM, there is a sequence in the Template Library that you can use to try to re-engage people before you scrub them. #blessed

I haven’t emailed my list in a while. How do I re-engage them

If it’s been less than 90 days, just start using the templates within the membership. Honestly, you’re fine. Pick any or the most recent and just get going!

If it’s been longer and you feel like people might not remember you– reintroduce yourself!

Find the welcome sequence templates inside the Template Library and use those to reteach folks about who you are, what your business does, and how your brand is different than the rest.

The first email, instead of saying Welcome say something like Hey again, it's NAME! Then remind them why they signed up for your list in the first place and then give them your freebie again. You can say something like "In case you need this again..."

Follow the other emails accordingly and adjust as needed. Here is a video of Liz walking through (more in depth than I can) how turning that welcome sequence into a nurture sequence.

We know email can feel like a knot you’re never going to untangle. How do I segment my list?

Honestly? We consider segmenting a “2.0” strategy fit for businesses only when they’ve met certain thresholds like hitting six figures, emailing their list for two years, etc.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rules. Local businesses and ecommerce shops with varying products may fit under these exceptions. If that’s you, you may consider segmenting your list in the first week of a lead joining your email list. Periodically, you can also send out a newsletter specifically designed to segment the list. You can use the This or That template inside the membership to help you create that newsletter.
